This retreat focuses on the entry Level 1 Harmony Tai Chi (HTC).

Learn the entire 18 Step Harmony Tai Chi form together with its underlying universal principles. An introduction will also be given on how to use the form for spiritual cultivation using the Tao Teh Ching, as elucidated by Hua Ching Ni.

This retreat will focus on learning and refining the Yang Section of Harmony Tai Chi Long Form. Instead of morning sitting practice, there will be an emphasis on supplementary practices as learned in previous retreats.

Open to those who have learned HTC 18 Step, or who have the instructor’s permission.

Inspired by the I Ching’s Great Harvest hexagram, this retreat offers an opportunity to deepen spiritual cultivation through meditation, movement, nature immersion, mindful service, and periods of silence. Participants follow a simple rhythm of practice, reflection, community, and rest to support clarity, renewal, and inner growth.

Note: this is a device-free retreat designed to support presence, focus, and connection to the natural world. (Exception for non-English speakers who require a translation device)

Retreat Eligibility

The Oregon Shrine & Retreat Center is an intimate retreat space in Southern Oregon, originally the residence of Hua-Ching Ni and now home to immersive Taoist retreats. Most programs are open to graduates of the College of Tao's foundational training programs, including Chi Health Institute instructors, Integral Way Mentors, and Level 1 graduates.

Service as Practice

All participants are expected contribute through light service to help care for the retreat center, gardens, and grounds as part of a unified retreat experience. This shared practice reflects the Taois principle that caring for our environment is also a way of cultivating ourselves

College of Tao Retreat 2026

The College of Tao 2026 North Carolina Retreat was held as a five-day immersive experience in the Blue Ridge Mountains at the Art of Living Retreat Center in Boone, North Carolina. Participants engaged in a rich program of Taoist practices including Eight Treasures Qi Gong, Tai Chi, meditation, Ba Gua, and integrative nutrition, alongside teachings from Dr. Mao Shing Ni and other senior instructors.

 

For those who were unable to attend or would like to revisit the teachings, full retreat recordings are available for purchase so the experience can be accessed at any time.
