The human capabilities that are often talked about tend to be those that can be seen externally, but some capabilities are hidden and it is these that we consider to be the natural potential in human life.

At the subtle or hidden level of human capabilities is the mind, and like the human hand it developed many functions in response to the needs of life.

A complete mind is made up of the two sides of internal yang and internal yin. The front consciousness exists as the apparent, upper, shallow part of the mind. The functions and abilities from this area are mostly related to the powers of the brain., and are recognized as the mind in life. But its partner--the rear consciousness--is the hidden and deeper part of the mind.
