Realizing Universal Morality

Although all people are born equal in terms of their nature, spiritual growth comes from personal effort

All people face the need to support themselves in the world, and since the time of the hunters and gatherers this has often meant that males work outside to find and provide support for their family, while the females take care of the family duties. In modern generations, the pattern of family life has changed. Now females may need to find an income, and face the same challenges as males when they finish school and seek opportunities to live and work outside the family home. A good income has thus become important to both genders. However, people should still be aware of the temptation created by offers of higher pay from easy work, and consider the moral issues involved in such situations.

There are three factors that have an equal value in maintaining our health and balance: an appropriate income, good intellectual health, and a basic respect for individuality. Balance among these three factors can save us from becoming a slave to any partial need in life, and prevent any subsequent damage to our healthy personality. It can also help avoid damage to society because when the spiritual value of life is damaged in the confused situation of modern commercialism, the health of society is also damaged.
