What is Integral Nutrition?
Food and nutrition is integral to sustenance. health and healing, hence—Integral Nutrition. Integral Nutrition also integrates both Western, biochemical science of nutrition with the Eastern, energetic properties of nutrition. It is a holistic approach to Food as Medicine—personalizing eating for each person’s unique health and healing needs.
Food Contains Energy
Ultimately, the energy that sustains all life on Earth is the sun. The animal & plant kingdoms continue their existence by nature of the Yin/Yang balancing of Oxygen & Carbon Dioxide and the products of carbohydrate by the plant chlorophyll. Each plant generates energy to sustain itself through photosynthesis. It embodies the energy of life—the life force which runs through every organism on our plant.
It is therefore this ancient perspective of food as containers of life force with unique nutrient content and healing attributes that Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Functional Nutrition arose to serve as a foundation for the growth of one of the most ancient and far-reaching civilization on earth. Long before the words, Food as Medicine, TCM Functional Nutrition was a distinct healing modality that was considered the first step in any healing journey. Synthesizing the knowledge of modern biochemically-based nutritional science with the ancient, energy-based nutritional wisdom shall enable the practitioner to positively impact one’s mind, body and spirit.
Nature can be trusted as the great provider; it is we who need to open our hearts and minds. Maintaining our physical health will reflect directly on not just our physical health and wellbeing but also our spiritual health and capability. It is an essential ingredient for the development of our spiritual potential. Developing ourselves spiritually will lessen our emotional entanglements with food and awaken our internal wisdom of what we truly need. The best digestion comes from a truly calm mind.
Mission Statement of the Integral Nutrition Institute
